Cruising the Caribbean

October 2007

The Ship
Our cruise ship off of Grand Cayman Island

Grand Cayman Island
Grand Cayman Island is the flattest island I have ever seen.

Sandy in Hell
One of our stops on Grand Cayman Island was a village named Hell.  Its main industry is selling shirts and hats
from Hell, in addition to postcards that could be postmarked in Hell.  Here is Sandy in Hell.

Playa Del Carmen
Arriving at Playa Del Carmen by ferry from Cozumel, we are on our way to the Mayan city of Tulum.

Iguana at Tulum
While walking the jungle path to Tulum, our progress was observed by locals.

Tulum
The ruins at Tulum are visited by so many people it has become necessary to limit access to roped-off paths.

Barber Shop
Crossing Belize by bus, it is obvious most of the country is not in great shape.

Home on stilts
Judging from the homes on stilts, hurricanes must bring water well inland.

Mopan River crossing in Belize
To reach the ruins of the Mayan city of Xunantunich you must cross the Mopan River on a hand-cranked ferry.
